Someone suggested that I consider making this daily analysis available as a newsletter on substack.com. I have now opened an account there, which is accessible by clicking on frankmcphillips.substack.com (Frank’s Alabama COVID Newsletter). I have archived all of my posts there, beginning May 1 through today. If you sign up on substack and provide your email address, my newsletter will be emailed to you every day free of charge, beginning tomorrow (make sure to check your spam folder). I will continue to post on Facebook as well.
For the 2nd day in a row, Alabama topped 2,000 daily cases. In fact, there were exactly 2,000 cases today, including 242 probables). As of 6:30 pm, ADPH had not released any data on tests, so it’s not possible to calculate the positivity rate today.
Hospitalizations continue to rise, however - now 1,233 patients in 106 reporting hospitals, an increase of 62 patients in 108 hospitals yesterday and a 530-patient increase from the near-term low of 703 on September 25. Huntsville Hospital System now has 194 patients, DCH Health has 74 patients and Cullman Regional has 42. All three hospitals report that their patient populations have reached their highest levels since this summer.
Another U.S. daily case record was broken today - as of 6:30 pm, over 157,000 cases were recorded in the United States, with several states remaining. Models are projecting that we can expect over 300,000 daily cases by the end of the year. There were also at least 1,480 COVID deaths recorded, which is the highest since mid-August and that number is projected to rise precipitously.
Meanwhile, the current Administration remains obsessed and preoccupied with petty politics and vendettas. The “Coronavirus Task Force” has not even communicated in weeks. Friends, we cannot expect a helping hand until the new Administration takes over and this winter will not be kind to those who are careless. Please wear your mask and encourage your friends and family to do the same. The totals:
