One of the few bright spots in this pandemic has been the sight of heroic doctors and nurses putting their lives on the line in hospitals all over the country. That's why I became outraged last month when President Trump blamed the shortage of N95 masks in NYC on medical professionals who he accused of stealing the masks "out the back door". Another bright spot has been the sight of National Guardsmen who were deployed to back up understaffed public health agencies by decontaminating nursing homes, setting up field hospitals and testing infected Americans. Today, FEMA announced this deployment of National Guardsmen will terminate on June 24, one day shy of eligibility for certain key Federal benefits. Outrage hardly begins to describe my reaction....
