Two weeks ago, I began posting the daily totals of COVID cases and deaths in Alabama. I was concerned then, and I still am, that disease and death could become normalized in this pandemic, leading people to excuse rationalizations and inaction by those in authority. In early April, the White House adopted guidelines for determining when public health recommendations can be relaxed. The most important guideline was the existence of declining cases for 14 consecutive days. Below are the 14-day totals in Alabama:
4/30 - 215
5/1 - 266
5/2 - 272
5/3 - 287
5/4 - 224
5/5.- 325
5/6 - 254
5/7 - 355
5/8 - 329
5/9 - 293
5/10 -221
5/11 - 275
5/12 - 300
5/13 - 236
