Today's COVID-19 statistics illustrate an important development in this crisis. The situation is worsening in many states, but the number of new cases and deaths in the U.S. has plateaued. The reason is states like New York, Washington and Louisiana, which endured the first onslaught of this disease, have made progress by following the advice of public health experts. Other states, like ours, have bowed to political pressure. Today, it is noteworthy there were more new cases in Alabama (300) than in Louisiana (235) and more people died in Alabama (32) than in the State of Washington (11). Consider this next time when you refuse to wear a mask or observe social distance.
Below is the 14-day total of reported cases in Alabama:
4/29 - 164
4/30 - 215
5/1 - 266
5/2 - 272
5/3 - 287
5/4 - 224
5/5.- 325
5/6 - 254
5/7 - 355
5/8 - 329
5/9 - 293
5/10 -221
5/11 - 275
5/12 - 300
It is heartbreaking to prepare these daily posts. It will be even more so if we are forced to endure a second wave.
