According to the ADPH dashboard, there were 642 new COVID cases in Alabama yesterday, revised from 315, reported yesterday. Bamatracker says there were 636 new cases today, but that has not yet been confirmed by APDH. Another tracking service, worldometer.info, says today's total was 656. It is likely these totals include some overlap that will be resolved later.
One thing is clear - if you include the "probable" cases, everyone agrees Alabama crossed the 20,000 case milestone today. That is more cases than Israel, Japan, Denmark or Australia. Almost twice as many cases as South Korea.
In addition to the reported spike in new cases, there is another disturbing number in today's report: 44 new hospitalizations - up from 20 yesterday and the fourth highest daily total of new hospitalizations since mid-April. That is worth keeping an eye on. Here are the new cases for the last 14 days, which undoubtedly include some catch-up from earlier this week:
