In case you missed the article in Alabama Political Reporter, the Dept of Health has blamed a faulty computer for a significant underreporting of positive COVID-19 cases in Alabama in recent days. The State Health Officer promised that his "IT folks are working on it".* I admit that I draw cold comfort from these assurances. To quote a good friend, "A computer that can't compute is the most Alabama thing ever".
So, on a day when the national COVID-19 numbers are dreadful - CA -3,315; TX - 1,955; AZ - 1,575; FL - 1,305; NC - 1,220 - USA total - 29,218 - I present to you Alabama's totals for the last 14 days, according to our Dept of Health. I make no guarantees as to the accuracy of these numbers:
5/23 - 374
5/24 - 348
5/25 - 639
5/26 - 592
5/27 - 353
5/28 - 487
5/29 - 511
5/30- 616
5/31- 593
6/1 - 333
6/2 - 228
6/3 - 216
6/4 - 307
6/5 - 315
*I should point out that ADPH waited until today to report the number of deaths in Alabama on Wednesday. Even in the midst of the most horrific outbreak in NY, with thousands of New Yorkers dying every day, Gov. Cuomo managed to report accurate daily data at a live press conference by noon of each day. Why is Alabama unable to furnish its citizens with the timely data they need to carry on their lives?
